by Vinny Messana

This past week our emphasis was on high school ball with the season just getting underway, but I did get the chance to watch Molloy-LIU Post wrap up their four-game set on Monday.

There was some changes towards the top in our latest Power Rankings–here’s how they stack up.

  1. Molloy

Record (17-7, Stock EVEN)

They went 3-1 this week, bouncing back from Monday’s defeat at the hands of Brian Kavanagh at LIU. They followed that up with three straight wins. Most impressively, they are getting contributions all over. On Wednesday, Elijah Leerdham smacked the game-winning pinch hit grand slam to defeat Bloomfield 9-5. This week Angelo Navetta struggled a bit after his hot streak but was picked up by Anthony Galanoudis and Deilyn Guzman’s hot hitting. Pitching wise, Bobby Kelly and Ron Bauer have been co-aces and each have their name in the conversation for ECC pitcher of the year. They have five conference games this week, so they can really create some separation in the conference.

2. Adelphi

Record (13-11, Stock UP)

They went 3-1 this week and need to be taken seriously at this point. It appears that Jonathon Mulford has found his rhythm, after his 8 dominant innings against Pace on Wednesday. Freshman Ed Baram and junior transfer Matthew O’Connor have both proven to be reliable arms in the rotation, which is a scary thought for the NE-10. The offense has been led by freshman Brett Malm, Michael Cattani and Brandon Morse. 2015 All-Long Islander, Rob Vani, is up to .321 after a slow start and that is great news for their lineup. Big week for them with Southern Connecticut, Southern New Hampshire and Franklin Pierce. This will tell us a lot about what they’re made of.
