Recap of Week Six of the New York Baseball Academy

Another year is in the books at the New York Baseball Academy.

One of the highest rated baseball summer camps for youth ballplayers held their annual six week camp at Hofstra University. During the duration of the camp, the young athletes had the privilege of learning from some of the best baseball minds from Long Island such as Hofstra head coach Frank Catalanotto and his assistant coach Jimmy Goelz.

During this past week, the New York Baseball Academy recognized the campers that attended all six weeks. The award, which had been named the Iron Man Award, has now been renamed to the Matt McDevitt Iron Man Award. McDevitt was a former player and coach at the New York Baseball Academy and director of the Yorkville Baseball Association. He went on to become a valued member of the FDNY. Tragically, he passed away at the age of 31 in 2019.

Representing the McDevitt Strong Foundation was Matt’s former teammate and NYBA guest instructor, Lou Bernardi, and his dad, Gary McDevitt.

This year’s award recipients are:

David Cadigan

Colin Johnson

Jack Leone

The recipient of the Axcess Player of the Week was Brendan Wachs. Below he is pictured with NYBA Director Mike McCabe and Mike Harris.
