New York Longhorns Tassielli Capture 13u National Columbus Day Tournament Championship

The mark of a truly dominant team is how they perform against other top teams. The NY Longhorns-Tassielli haven proven their mettle in the fall 2023 season as they have not only won their first two tournaments, but are now 14-0 to kick off the fall. Their latest performance was this weekend’s ECYBL Columbus Day Tournament in which they won 10-0 via run-rule in the championship. Over the four games, they outscored their opponents, 61-2.

In today’s championship game against B1 Seminoles AD-Black, the first inning was scoreless. After that, the bats went to work beginning in the second inning when Dolan reached on a strikeout but the ball was in the dirt and he was able to reach first base safely. The next two batters reached on fielder’s choices. With two outs and a runner on first, Christian Gonzalez ripped an RBI triple to get the Longhorns on the board. He was able to score when the throw back to the mound got away and he scampered home to make it 2-0.

Their starting pitcher, Joey Moy, was outstanding. After allowing a single and a walk in the first inning, he fired a 1-2-3 second inning and worked around a one-out walk in the third inning to get his offense back in the dugout.

The Longhorns did their heavy lifting in the bottom of the third when they batted around and scored seven runs to break the game open.

Cole Ferraiolo was hit by a pitch to start the inning, he advanced to third on a single by Braden Cloghessy. They executed a perfect double steal to make it 3-0 and get Cloghessy in scoring position. After a ground out to second, Mike Slow ripped an RBI triple down the right field line and he scored on an RBI single;e by Jake Spina. After a single and a walk, Mike McGlynn made it 6-0 with a sac fl and Christian Gonzalez hit a two-run triple to make it 8-0. Cole Ferraiolo came to the plate again, he hit an RBI single to make it 9-0. Finally, the inning came to a close with a strikeout but the damage was done. Moy fired another 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts in the fourth inning. Needing just one run for the run-rule to go into effect, the Longhorns didn’t waste much time with back-to-back walks followed by a wild pitch pitch which allowed Steck to score the “walk-of” run.

After the game, Tassielli spoke about how the boys played a complete game and the bats were really potent this weekend. All three 13u Longhorns teams won their respective championships this weekend.
