On a beautiful championship Sunday the Long Island Dodgers Nation came back and finished strong to beat the Roslyn Bulldogs by a score of 9-7.
Things were not trending in the right direction for the Dodgers as they went down early to start the top of the first. After a leadoff single and another runner reached base, Giordano plated two runs on an infield single paired with a throwing error giving an early 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs continued with an RBI single from Fischer and an RBI double from Brooks to cap off a great four-run first inning. The Dodgers responded right back in the bottom half of the inning with a line drive to center to bring in their first run of the game. Dylan Foster then laced one past the second baseman to cut the deficit to 4-2. Gavin Zigler, who also started the game for the Dodgers, put one into the outfield and sprinted around the bases for a 3-run inside the park homerun putting his team back in the lead at 5-4. The Dodgers capped off their first inning with a sacrifice fly by James Dillon putting them ahead by two runs.
In the top of the second inning the Bulldogs were able to scratch a run across on an error by the first baseman bringing this game back to a one run ballgame. In the bottom half of the frame the Dodgers capitalized on crucial back-to-back wild pitches bringing in some insurance runs making it 8-5. A fielders choice by Foster capped off the Dodgers day offensively, boosting them to a 9-5 lead after three innings.
In the fifth inning the Bulldogs mounted an effort to creep back into the ballgame. Weisbrot hit into a fielders choice which allowed a run to score and Murad lined an RBI single to cut the Dodgers lead to 9-7. In the bottom half of the fifth the Dodgers were threatening to score yet again to bolster their lead but the Bulldogs turned a nice double play to prevent any more runs from crossing the plate.
