Howard, Titans Asch defeat Phenom Baseball NY in Blue Chip Prospect Tournament

by Nick Cipolla

If today’s game was just between Brenden Howard (St. Anthonys) and Phenom Baseball NY, the final score would still favor the Long Island Titans in this afternoon’s contest.

Brenden Howard got the Titans on the board first as he stepped up to the plate with two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the third and a chance to give his team the lead. Howard did not miss his opportunity as he crushed a ball over the left fielder’s head and the ball bounced all the way to the outfield fence at Mitchell Field.

By the time the ball was thrown into the infield, two runs crossed the plate and Howard was sliding into third base, giving the Titans a 2-0 lead. During the next at bat, Howard made it 3-0 as he was able to score from third on a passed ball.

In the fourth inning, Dominick Weidtman (Smithtown East) got Phenom Baseball on the board with an RBI infield hit, but that was all they would get in this afternoon’s contest.

In the bottom of the inning, the Titans had the bases loaded and were threatening to make their lead even bigger. The Titans were able to get two runs in the inning, the first came on a throwing error by the Phenom Baseball catcher on a 1-2-3 double play attempt, the next run came in when Brian Cadieux (Kellenberg) scored on a passed ball to make it a 5-1 game.

That was all the insurance the Titans needed as they shut the door in the next inning right as the time limit was reached and they were able to claim victory over Phenom Baseball.
