They say league games are the most intense, and this one lived up to the billing.Ward Melville clinched the League I title with a 10-3 win over Pat-Med in a wild and contentious game that featured both player and fan ejections from confrontations.

Sophomore starter Ben Brown was above the chaos– he improved to 5-0 with a complete game victory, allowing three ER on 10 hits against a potent Raider offense.

“We had a lot of intensity today,” said Brown. “We kept it going for seven innings. We’re not done yet–this is just the start,” he added.

He was backed by an explosive offense that smacked 11 hits–including a monstrous grand slam to center field by catcher Jeff Towles to open up an 8-0 lead, he also hit an RBI single to center in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 10-3 to score Joe Flynn.

Speaking of Flynn, he was intentionally walked in all four at bats today. He had three hits yesterday and Pat-Med was not going to let him impact the game. He is headed to Princeton in the fall and is rated the No. 1 prospect on Long Island by Blue Chip Prospects.

Brandon Lee had three hits and scored three runs in the game. He scored in the sixth inning on a bizarre play that began when a pitch got past the catcher Zach Genaway. Flynn took off for second immediately but looked up and noticed Lee hadn’t broke for third. He had no choice but to run back to first but as he was getting chased back, the shortstop missed the tag. He thought he was able to land the tag so he flipped the ball to the mound but the umpire signaled safe and Lee sprinted home and Flynn moved to second.

The Patriots are now 14-2 on the season while the Raiders drop to 11-5.
