Labor Day Weekend, some hot dogs, hamburgers, cold drinks and some championship baseball games! LIB Prime took on the Queens Marksmen in the Boys of Summer Labor Day Weekend 12u championship game. Cantiague Park in Long Island was busy when LIB put on an offensive explosion._x000D_

LIB wasted no time getting on the board against the Marksmen starting pitcher Joey Veterano. They were able to put across two runners early following a drop third strike that got away which scored a run, and another error which put home another run. Paul Brito would then waste no time capitalizing on that when he ripped an RBI double over the center fielders head to cap off a three run first inning._x000D_

The starting pitcher for LIB, Jack Degnan, put together a fabulous start when LIB needed it the absolute most. After surrendering two runs in the first inning, only one of them earned, Jack set down the next 10 batters straight leading to a mercy rule victory in four innings. _x000D_

“Jack knew he was going to get the ball in this game and he knew what he had to do, the boys rallied behind him” said Coach Jon Cruz after his gutsy championship game performance._x000D_

On the offensive end, LIB put together eleven runs from the second inning to the fourth leading to fourteen total runs. Ben Cohen had himself a game, he finished four for four with a two run home run which he actually called moments before his at bat. Nick Kramer also went yard just two batters after Cohen, he hit a solo shot and LIB would go on to complete the mercy rule over the Queens Marksmen._x000D_

The final score ended up 14-2 as LIB was able to close up shop early in just four innings due to the mercy rule. AJ Wayne had to leave the game after taking a ball off the face but it never slowed this team down for a second. _x000D_

“AJ wanted back in this game but I said no way but that’s just the mentality these kids have, never giving up.” Regarding the kids’ effort this weekend, quote on quote “blood, sweat, and tears” in this long weekend of baseball.
